Family Fraud, Corporate Investigation

Date: 2026
Lead Investigator: Patrick Maenza

A family with interests in a group of privately held companies has engaged General Mear Investigations and Security Firm to carry out an independent corporate investigation, following internal concerns over how certain company affairs and assets have been managed in recent months. The investigation, now underway, was initiated after questions arose within the family regarding changes to company directorship and shareholding structures, as well as the handling of company assets, including mining-related interests. Family members raised concerns that some of these changes may not have followed proper process, prompting the decision to bring in independent investigators rather than rely solely on internal review.

"When family members share an interest in a group of companies, transparency isn't optional, it's the foundation the whole structure rests on. Where that transparency comes into question, an independent, evidence-based investigation is the responsible next step," said Lead Investigator Patrick Maenza.

According to General Mear Investigations, the inquiry is examining several interconnected areas of concern. Investigators are reviewing directorship and shareholding history across the companies involved, to establish whether recent changes were made through proper and lawful process. Alongside this, the team is working to verify the authenticity of agreements, letters, and legal documents connected to the companies, amid concerns that some materials in circulation may not be genuine. The investigation also extends to asset and financial tracing, with investigators seeking to establish a clear paper trail for recently acquired assets and to identify the source of funds used to acquire them. In addition, the firm is reviewing the status and legitimacy of related corporate and civil matters connected to the group, and systematically testing the concerns raised against available records and documentation rather than relying on assumption or hearsay.

Investigators noted that the process is methodical by design. "Corporate investigations of this kind live or die on documentation," Maenza explained. "Our job is to follow the paper trail, verify what's genuine, and flag what doesn't add up — not to assume the answer before the evidence is in."

General Mear Investigations was clear that no conclusions have been reached at this stage, and the firm does not determine questions of guilt, liability, or wrongdoing. That responsibility, the firm stressed, rests with the relevant authorities and institutions once an evidential picture has been established. "We're not in the business of pronouncing verdicts," said Maenza. "We investigate, we document, and we hand over a body of verified evidence. What happens after that is for the courts, regulators, or other competent authorities to decide."

The investigation remains active, with the team continuing to gather and verify documentation across multiple companies within the group. General Mear Investigations says it expects to provide a further update once the evidential phase of the inquiry is closer to completion.
